  • Location: Columbia, Maryland, the largest planned community in USA, is an attractive area for physicians due to being only a half-hour drive from both Baltimore and Washington, D.C. Baltimore has the renowned Johns Hopkins Medical System as well as University of Maryland and Maryland General Hospital. All are teaching hospitals. Washington, DC, has Washington Adventist (known for cardiac care due to Dr. Shawl, a fine cardiac surgeon originally from Kashmir), Georgetown University Hospital and also George Washington Hospital. Washington area also has the National Institute of Health (NIH). Free Pri-Med weekend (2 full days) medical seminars are readily available, and there are frequent pharmaceutical company educational dinner meetings. A visit to the Smithsonian Institute Museums in Washington, DC, can be very interesting. The Air & Space Museum and the Museum of Natural History (with the fabulous Hope Diamond) are really special.
